F.A. Areago was born on March 6th 1932. His full names are Abdul-Fatai Ajani Adetunji Areago. The Areagos are Owu citizens of the Yoruba tribe in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Olowu was a derivative of the savannah crop called Owu (cotton).

HISTORY OF OWU
Owu is ruled by Princes selected from six ruling houses: Amororo, Otileta, Ayoloye, Akinjobi, Akinoso and Lagbedu. This core of chiefs is headed by the Balogun who has under him Otun, Osi, Seriki, Aare Ago and Jagunna. Ogboni has as their head, the Akogun, Obamaja, Orunto, Oyega, Osupori and Omolasin. Originally, we have 3 townships namely Owu, Erunmu and Apomu.

THE PRINCESS FROM ILE-IFE / THE ROYAL CONNECTION
The Royal connection is on both sides. The Areagos are from the Royal families of Owu (Osupori & Labuta) Amororo ruling house of Owu Kingdom and the Orunto Ruling House of Ife (Onibuse). This is where Owu Kingdom and Ile-Ife connects.
This is not surprising. Do you know that many Owu people from Osun State migrated to Abeokuta in Ogun State.
It is not all the Areagos who are related to the Cokers. The only one related to the Coker family was the Patriarch, F. A. Areago. This is based on the fact that F.A. Areago shared the same mother with G.A. Coker.
Chief F. A. Areago’s mother was a princess from Ife. She was Oba Sijuade’s aunty, the late Ooni of Ife. They have family home in Alagbado, next to the market, before railway station This was how she met our grandfather, Abdul Bakr Areago. She came home from Ile-Ife on a family vacation. She was a very beautiful woman to behold. Immediately our grandfather set his eyes on her, he knew she was the one he had been looking for all his life. But there was something very strange about this affection because she already had a child for a prince in Osun State. She later married Abdul Bakry Areago, prior to that, she had a son for a royal family in Osun. The royal family are the Cokers.
Chief F. A. AREAGO brought many families together as one so much that blood relationship became meaningless. He had such a unique nature that he was different from all his father’s children. He never liked to see anyone suffer. He would go out of his way to make sure the person got the solution to the problem. Some of their relations are the Jakande family, the Agoros, the Ariyos, etc. He went home to glory on May 17th 1988.
LAGOS ISLAND SETTLEMENT AND CONNECTION
Abdul Bakr Areago, Our grandfather settled in Lagos Island. He lived in the Island Swamp, all by himself and the Aworis called him E̩NÌKÁNTÁÀMỌ, hence the name of the building got called that way till today. Its amazing that over the course of years pronounciation change if not corrected. Today, E̩NÌKÁNTÁÀMỌ has become ANIKANTAMO. Our great grandfather also had another building that was sold by aunties and Uncles some years ago. Most of the Swamp Street properties which belonged to him were sold also. Great inheritance was lost due to lack of record.
The Areagos believe in investment in Real Estate hence the reason why anywhere they stay, they procure lands and properties. It is in the blood. The Areagos believe in estate planning and have insight into the benefits of investing in real estate to secure a better future.
THE COKER CONNECTION
The only brother F.A.Areago had from his mother was "Daddy Agba" Ganiyu Ayinde Coker who also went to glory. He was very much older than daddy and took good care of daddy when they were young. It is said that when Daddy Agba moved to the north, Kano to be precise that he took "Daddy Kekere" (FA Areago) with him to nurture him. FA Areago moved back to Lagos for greener pastures. The Cokers are extended family and of the Royal house from Ile-Ife. They are Princes and Princesses. Some of them are of the Akinjobi stock just like the Cokers. They are also referred to sometimes as the "Afobaje". The ones who make kings
The Cokers have direct connection to the Royal stool based on our mutual grandmother being an aunty to the last OONI OF ILE-IFE. Ganiyu Ayinde Coker and Fatai Ajani Areago were both first cousins to Oba Sijuade. They were actually raised together. It is also said that Oba Sijuade knew from young that he would be king and was always teased by both men and called Oba lola", the one who will be king.
THE ARIYO CONNECTION
The Areagos are related to the Ariyos just like the Cokers. Our Grandmother is the senior sister to the Brother Rasaki’s Mother, from the Ariyo lineage. The Ariyo family including Brother Rasaki, at Oremeji street they are mummy's children.
Our Grandfather, Abdul Baki (Bakry) was properly born in “Enikantamo”, joined Railway services in the early 1900s. He built a house in Mushin, Lagos State with his brother (Babatunde Areago 's father). The area is called Imoru, in Mushin Lagos State. The Imoru house is still standing till date. He later moved to Alagbado, most likely due to Railway. He was the only family member that moved to Alagbado. Most of his siblings stayed in Lagos. He was very rich and acquired landed properties there.
Late Adekunle Areago was his exact replica hence the nickname Baba. (May His Soul rest in peace.)
Kazeem Adigun was his first great grandson. (May His Soul rest in peace.)
THE MEANING OF THE NAME AREAGO
The name Areago was derived from the military ranks like Balogun, Seriki, Asipa etc. The full title name is ÀRẸÀGÒRÒO, this means Areago and Agoro are derived from the same thing. This explained our connection to the "Agoro" in Lagos and Uncle Tunde Agoro. The Areagos are called upon by the king to go to war because they are WARRIORS AND NEVER LOSE BATTLES. The Areago family are very reliable because they are men of valour and virtuous women always ready to defend the kingdom. Their women very industrious and resilient. Faithful in their beliefs whether as muslims or christians. There is one peculiar thing about the Areagos, they do not betray people. Their word is their bond. They are born warriors. They are also king makers. Anyone they select with other king makers will be made a king because of the pedigree. They are always ready to fight a good cause for anyone. They hate people been cheated and would fight as if the battle was theirs. It is one of the reasons that the title or name of "Aare Ago" or "Areagoroo" is a powerful and sacred one and anyone bearing the name always exhibit the attributes.
THE AREAGO COURT AT EBUTE-META
Another school of thought believes the Areago name was derived from being the PRESIDENT OF A COURT. There is no evidence to show that great grandfather and grandfather were lawyers. Architect, Yes! Real Estate Mogul, Yes! because of their love for properties. But it is passed down in history that our great, great, grandfather presided over the court and was the PRESIDENT OF “AGO which means The Areago Court was built in the early 1900s. Unfortunately, this edifice was pulled down recently in 2019 to make way for a modern building.
THE AREAGO AS CHIEF TO OBA OF LAGOS
Another historical naration indicated that our great grandfather was one of the chiefs of the King of Lagos. This is the reason the king gave him the Swamp area to reside. All the properties he purchased in the Swamp were sold due to modern development in Lagos.
THE ALAGBADO PROPERTIES
Adbul Bakr Areago, Our grandfather, upon moving to Alagbado, Lagos due to his job at the Railway services purchased hectres of lands. These hectres of land spanned the area of Lagos State and Ogun State. Portion of these lands were inherited by our Patriarch, F.A. Areago from his mother as well. F. A. Areago also bought more hectres of lands. F.A. Areago used these lands to set up the very first of its kind, two distinct factories. F. A. Areago registered a company FAJARC NIGERIA LIMITED
1. RAINBOW PAINTS - The first of its kind in Nigeria
2. AGBADO FARM - He ventured Soya beans farming, also the first of its kind
3. BUKONIKE PLASTIC INDUSTRY - also another 1st of its kind in Nigeria. Nike and Bukola (MHSRIP) are split image of F. A. Areago and probably this must be the reason he gave this company the name.
This is not actually surprising because F. A. Areago was an astute business man. Articulate, knowledgeable and had a great passion for his businesses and people.
He never lacked and used his resources and substances to assist so many people so that till date, his impact upon so many lives cannot be quantified.
F. A. Areago had a partnership in a nail factory (also the first one in Nigeria) in Matori Area on Papa Ajao, Mushin Lagos state. JIMFAT NIGERIA LIMITED
F. A. Areago also had a sugar plantation on his farm which many people have stolen to convert to residential area in Alagbado after his death. It was always his dream to create an estate at Alagbado. Today, the dream came through but was stolen by people he trusted to guard the landed properties.
They were selling the lands without his knowledge piecemeal until there was none. These miscreants even sold some of the same lands to two or more people thereby causing litigations among themselves. It is just as the Yoruba proverb which says, "E̩ní rí ńkan e, tó fẹ́ kú pẹ̀lú ẹ̀. O̩wó̩ e̩ni tó ti só̩ńù ńkó̩". These stolen lands have become a great and horrible controversy that many innocent people were duped.
